For our preliminary task, we had to film a sequence in which a character walks through a door, sits opposite another character and consists of dialogue.
We made a plan for our preliminary task and decided that we would use the following camera shots:
- Long Shot
- Shot/reverse shot
- Medium shot
- Eyeline match
- Match-on-action
- Two shot
- 180 degree rule
Our scenario:
Below is our first attempt of creating the preliminary task. We noticed many errors after watching it.

Our scenario:
- Character walks towards the door (long shot)
- Proceeds to reach for the door handle (match-on-action)
- The character is then shown walking through the door (shot/reverse shot)
- Shot is then switched to show character from behind
- Character sees friend (eyeline match)
- Dialogue between two characters (two shot)
Below is our first attempt of creating the preliminary task. We noticed many errors after watching it.
Problems we noticed:
- The long shot at the beginning lasted for too long which may cause the viewer to lose interest very quickly
- The use of match-on-action does not flow with the previous shot
- Shot/reverse shot of the character walking in the room - the cabinet is in the way which blocks the view of the character
- The characters head was cut off in the shot at certain times
- An accidental jump-cut occurs when the character sits on the chair
- We should have filmed the prelim in a controlled environment to minimise extra noise
