This blog post will contain information about our location hunting process and our initial ideas about the type of location we wish to find.
Our opening sequence is mainly set in a dark room in an unknown location. Occasionally there will be scenes which will be outside of this room - in an alleyway where Red meets her next victim. At first we struggled to find a place to film our opening sequence because we needed a room that was plain and had no theme to it or else it would deviate from our idea. For example, we were going to film in my room originally however, my room has a theme of pink which would not conform to our genre of psychological thriller thus ruining the effect that we intend to create (a gloomy, eerie and mysterious effect).
Below is an example of the objects in my room that would ruin our intended effect:

This is the exact wallpaper that my room has. If we were to film in my room and this were to be seen, we believe that it would ruin the whole idea for our opening sequence. Furthermore, as i have researched about the colours used in psychological thrillers, I know that the colour Pink is not a common colour shown or used in this genre. | This a another pink object that my room contains. This would also ruin the effect that we intend to create. This could also lead our audience to not take our opening sequence seriously . |
Finding our location
Despite the problems we faced, we finally found a location for our opening sequence. We decided to use Rachel's house/area to film our sequence.

We decided to use Rachel's room to film the main part of our opening sequence because it does not contain any distracting objects/colours that will deviate from our chosen genre. Her room has plain white walls that would be perfect for our setting and also, perfect to project a red light on. Furthermore, her room does not have a theme to it which makes it easier for us to manipulate to our desire.
As for the alleyway/other areas, we thought that these areas were perfect because there are many backstreets/alleyways that are quiet that we could film in with no disturbance. Also, these are natural settings and well-known areas around our area which could appeal to our audience - especially because we will be showing our opening sequence to students who attend our school.
